An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Bitter Tea of General Yen, the 1932 Frank Capra Asian Chinese Revolution missionary interracial romance romantic melodrama ("She came to save souls - and nearly lost her own!"; an extremely daring movie for its day; Stanwyck is a missionary sent to China, to meet her fiance, also a missionary, but they are separated and she is injured, and she is taken to a Chinese general, and when his mistress is accused of betraying him, Stanwyck pleads with him to spare the mistress' life, and he does, but she then DOES betray him, and he is ruined, and Stanwyck realizes her tragic mistake and offers herself to him!) starring Barbara Stanwyck, Nils Asther (in the title role as General Yen), Toshia Mori, Walter Connolly, and Gavin Gordon NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that lobby cards from this Barbara Stanwyck movie are rarely offered for sale. We have only auctioned four cards from it in all our years of auctioning, and three of them were 21 years ago, and the only one since then was 11 years ago, and that one showed a much lesser crowd scene! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. The card had a long diagonal crease in the bottom left, extending into Stanwyck's credit. There were pinholes, smudges, creases, and tears around the edges, with a few within the image, including a tear in Connolly's forehead and a tear entering Stanwyck's hair in both images of her. A talented restorer gel backed the card (meaning they backed the card onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the card still exactly looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. The card is still somewhat fragile, and after it was gel-backed, it acquired a small tear in the middle of the right border. However, from any reasonable viewing distance, the card will display quite well, but bear in mind the restoration that this very rare card has had before placing a bid on it.
