An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style D One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Reunion in France, the 1942 Jules Dassin World War II (WWII) military romantic love triangle melodrama ("Thrilling romance of the underground revolt!"; set just before the German occupation of France; about a Frenchwoman who is engaged to an industrialist, and when the Germans occupy France, they commandeer her house and she finds her fiance is collaborating with the Germans, and then her loyalty to France is put to the test when she finds a downed American pilot and helps him escape) starring Joan Crawford, John Wayne, Philip Dorn, Reginald Owen, Albert Bassermann, John Carradine, Ann Ayars, J. Edward Bromberg, Moroni Olsen, Henry Daniell, and Ava Gardner (uncredited as a salesgirl). Note that this was Joan Crawford and John Wayne's only movie together and it was released one month before Casablanca. Like that movie, it was intended to instill patriotism in U.S. audiences, but it is not nearly as effective, and John Wayne does not even enter the movie until around 40 minutes have passed! Also note that this was director Jules Dassin's third movie (one of his earlier two was the similar "Nazi Agent"). After World War II, he would make some great film noirs, and then he made his greatest movie, Du Rififi Chez Les Hommes in 1955, and Never on Sunday in 1960, and Topkapi in 1962. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have only auctioned four examples of this style D poster in all our years of auctioning and the last time was over four years ago! Condition: good to very good. The poster has small tears and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. Someone put tape on the back of most of the vertical fold. It had pinholes and small tears around the edges and someone put small pieces of clear tape on the back of many of those. After a relatively simple linenbacking it should display well.
