An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 1/2" x 40 1/4" [70 x 102 cm]) (Learn More)

Keep Cool, the circa 1940s theater poster ("The theatres are always comfortable") informing the public of cool conditions in the theaters, and featuring an image of a penguin. This poster promotes the theater's great air conditioning! In the 1930s and 1940s, few homes had central air conditioning or even wall units, and every night through the hot summers, just about everyone would go to a movie theater, just as much to be able to sit in their cool air conditioned theater as to see the movies that were playing! The theaters had HUGE air conditioning units, and they would put these posters on display in prominent positions so that potential customers would know for certain that they would be sitting in cool comfort! We have seen advertisements for posters like these in pressbooks starting in 1935, but we have only auctioned one actual one-sheet, which shows a penguin, and we think that one likely dates from the early 1940s rather than the mid to late 1930s (it had no printer information or writing on the back). If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: As noted above, this is the only one-sheet advertising air conditioned theaters that we have auctioned (we have previously auctioned pressbooks containing ads for posters like this, and some promo brochures, but this is the first poster! Note that this one-sheet measures 27 1/2" x 40 1/4" [70 x 102 cm].

Condition: good to very good. The poster has 10" of separation in the left half of the upper horizontal fold and some separation in both bottom crossfolds. There is tiny paper loss at the top crossfold. After a simple linenbacking the poster will look fantastic!
