An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 40 3/4") (Learn More) The Sting, the classic 1974 George Roy Hill (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) poker horse racing gambling con men crime comedy ("...all it takes is a little Confidence."; "Written by David S. Ward"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; about a group of con men who swindle a criminal out of a huge amount of money) starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Robert Shaw, Ray Walston, Charles Durning, Harold Gould, Sally Kirkland, and Robert Earl Jones NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has completely different art from the commonly seen poster (the one with Richard Amsel artwork). Yet it has a ratings box, indicating it was intended for U.S. release. Since I have only heard of two other examples of this poster, I would think it likely that it was some sort of a special poster that may have been printed in very limited quantities, but then NOT distributed to theaters, and maybe these surviving examples were obtained from employees of the studio, or from people connected with the movie. In any event, it is certainly an extremely rare poster! Condition: very good. the poster was never machine folded; there are light horizontal creases running throughout the poster (almost surely caused by rolling and unrolling the poster); some of them are more noticeable than others; there are three vertical creases in Newman's image, two in the solid black and one in the grey area running down into the white below it. The creases described above are not very distracting, but certainly any talented restorer could linenback this poster, and in the process greatly minimize the creases.
