Date Sold 10/24/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Australian One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 39 3/4" [69 x 101 cm]) (Learn More) The Incredible Shrinking Man, the classic 1957 Jack Arnold science fiction (sci-fi) miniaturization fantasy adventure thriller ("A fascinating adventure into the unknown!"; "The most incredible story the screen has ever told!"; "Every hour he gets smaller.... Smaller... Smaller and moment by moment the terror mounts!..."; "Victim of Weird mist!"; "Day by Day he shrinks!"; "Science is baffled!"; "Cat becomes monster!"; "Terror at every turn!"; "Deadly spider attacks!"; "Lost in a floods fury!"; a highly literate screenplay by Richard Matheson from his own novel; surprisingly, the studio did not force Matheson to tack on an artificial "happy" ending, and it is lucky, for most people think the movie's actual ending is wonderful!; the special effects are primitive by today's standards, but they are very powerful, and work just fine) starring Grant Williams (in the title role), Randy Stuart, April Kent, Paul Langton, Raymond Bailey, William Schallert, and Orangey (as the cat Butch; Orangey was also Cat in "Breakfast At Tiffany's!") NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare Australian one-sheet poster. We have only auctioned one in all our years of auctioning and that was a decade ago! This poster has something VERY UNUSUAL about it. What is that? The person who owned it had a home movie theater, and they had a large collection of one-sheets, and they would display them when they showed the movie, and they needed a way to protect the posters while they were being handled, and keep them from being damaged while on display. He came up with a solution that we have not seen before. He had a thin sheet of laminate plastic placed over the BACK of each one-sheet, BUT NOT ON THE FRONT (as is normally done when laminating the poster). If you have ever seen "laminated" posters, they are often covered with very thick plastic material on both sides. THE LAMINATE PLASTIC USED HERE IS A THIN MATERIAL. While we have never seen this before, it actually works well! The front of the poster is no different then it was, but the plastic on the back greatly helps protect the poster from tears or other defects (this is the same principle that was used decades ago when they would kraftback posters moving from theater to theater, and as with kraftbacking, the posters with this laminate plastic on the back CAN be folded as normal, as this poster was). WE DON'T KNOW HOW EASY OR HARD IT WOULD BE TO REMOVE THE PLASTIC FROM THE BACK (although there are a few where the plastic is separating, indicating it surely CAN be done), but the buyer of this poster will have two options. They can either keep the poster exactly as is, and if they display it, no one will even know about the plastic laminate on the back, or they can have a restorer remove it. Either way, DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THAT IT HAS THIS ON THE BACK (but NOT on the front). Finally note that this Australian one-sheet measures 27" x 39 3/4" [69 x 101 cm]. Condition: fair to good. The poster has laminate plastic on the back only (see above: but NOT on the front). There is discoloration, deterioration and paper loss at upper left (in several areas) and someone backed that area with a large piece of purple paper that is visible from the front. There is some slight discoloration along other portions of the upper horizontal fold. Learn More about condition grades
