An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back, the 1934 Roy Del Ruth detective crime mystery comedy ("Based on the novel by H.C. McNeile"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck) starring Ronald Colman (in the title role as Bulldog Drummond), Loretta Young, Warner Oland (best remembered as Charlie Chan in the 20th Century Fox series), Charles Butterworth, Una Merkel, C. Aubrey Smith, Mischa Auer, Lucille Ball (in an early uncredited role!), George Regas, and E.E. Clive. Note that "Bulldog Drummond" was a fictional English detective who was created in 1920 in a magazine story by H.C. McNeile, who wrote under the pen name of "Sapper" He appeared in ten novels, short stories, and even stage plays. When McNeile passed away in 1937, his friend, Gerard Fairlie, wrote more stories between 1938 and 1954, and after that, other authors created even more stories. Drummond was a World War I veteran who is bored and becomes an amateur detective, and he marries his first client, who becomes his assistant. The first movie based on this character was in 1923, with Carlyle Blackwell in the lead role. There was one more silent with Jack Buchanan in the lead, and then Ronald Colman starred in the first sound version in 1929. There were 13 movies in the 1930s, many with John Howard in the lead role. The character was revived in 1947, and 5 movies were made between 1947 and 1951, with Ron Randell, Tom Conway, and Walter Pidgeon playing the leads. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. The card is very lightly rippled, due to exposure to moisture, but it is more "felt" than seen. There is noticeable water staining on the BACK of the bottom 1-2" of the card (more so on the back of the bottom right corner), but fortunately, it hardly shows through to the front at all, and the card is otherwise in nice condition (and any restorer could remove the staining and "flatten" the card without backing it, but it could also be displayed as is). Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
