An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Suspicion, the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock crime film noir mystery thriller ("Each time they kissed... There was the thrill of love... The threat of murder!"; "She won your heart in 'Rebecca'! He drew your cheers in 'Philadelphia Story'. Thrill to them together in a suspense-romance directed by the man who did 'Rebecca'"; "Screen play by Samson Raphaelson, Joan Harrison, Alma Reville [Hitchcock's wife]"; "Based on the novel 'Before the Fact' by Francis Iles"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Cary Grant, Joan Fontaine (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Nigel Bruce, Dame May Whitty, Lumsden Hare, Vernon Downing, and Auriol Lee. Note that there is controversy about the ending of this movie! Many people say that Hitchcock intended the movie to end with Grant killing Fontaine, and that the studio insisted that he change it (to preserve Grant's positive public image), but others say that this is an urban legend, and that the movie was always intended to end the way it did! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that original 1941 one-sheets from this title are quite rare! It is probably because the movie was re-released in both 1953 and in 1957, and it is likely that poster exchanges used up all of their 1941 posters during those re-releases. We have only previously auctioned one example of this first release one-sheet, and that was 7 years ago, when it sold for $3,400! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the top and middle crossfolds, with tiny bits of paper loss on parts of several folds. It had larger paper loss scattered on the bottom horizontal fold, mostly in the solid white areas, but slightly affecting the bottom of the first "S" and "p" of the title. The blank borders were trimmed off and there was some added small paper loss in the bottom 1" of the poster, but it had very little effect on the tiny text. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. A really excellent restorer did a wonderful job backing it (including replacing the missing blank borders so well that I think almost no one would realize it, even looking at the poster from inches away), and it will display really well on the new owner's wall. Please read the above carefully to realize exactly what restoration the poster has had. It is an extremely rare poster and the only other example of it we have auctioned was in similar condition, and it was not as well restored as this one was. Learn More about condition grades
