An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Winner Take All, the 1932 Roy Del Ruth romantic love triangle boxing sports melodrama ("James Cagney at his best in 'Winner Take All'"; "He knocks Cupid for a row of hearts!";"A Knockout"; the age old story of a boxer who has a "good" girlfriend, but then, when he hits the big time, he is seduced by a very "bad" girl) starring James Cagney, Marian Nixon, Guy Kibbee, Dickie Moore, Virginia Bruce, Clarence Muse, and Ralf Harolde NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this window card has a great very unusual image of Cagney, the boxer having his glove raised in victory by three miniature women in VERY revealing outfits! This was the kind of poster that was created pre-Code, but shortly after this time, all such risqué art vanished from movie posters. I have never seen another example of this great window card! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. This means the poster was backed onto a board backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: good to very good. The window card had theater information written across the entire top blank area, and had water staining around all the edges of the card, extending into the edges of the image area (see below). There were three nail holes within the image (two within letters of Cagney's name, and one at the bottom left in the green background). The person who did the restoration put new blank white paper over all the borders to even out the appearance (but the small writing at the bottom of the poster was not covered over). This is a common technique used by several top restorers. It is done so well that the majority of collectors are not even aware it has been done, and many do not feel it to be a significant detraction (since it is only blank white area). All of the outer edges of the image had some light water staining, and it is still slightly evident in the bottom 2" of the yellow dress, in the lower right part of Cagney's arm, and slightly in the green background around the edges of the poster. Other than the water stains and the three nail holes described above, there were NO defects within the image area. Choosing how to restore a poster like this is a matter of choice. If one wants to eliminate ALL traces of the water staining, you need to put a good amount of paint around the edges of the card, and then it may be somewhat noticeable, unless you then also paint large portions of the rest of the image. Instead, you can restore it in the way this was restored, where you can see signs of the restoration when looking at the card very close up, but from any distance away, the restoration is not very noticeable, and you mostly just see the wonderful image! I much prefer the type of restoration this window card had, where you can still see the restoration from inches away, because it means that the poster has not been "dipped in paint" in order to make the restored areas indistinguishable from the rest, because this sort of restoration means there is far less paint on the poster, and it still looks great from any distance away! I would think most collectors would be quite happy to display this great poster on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
