A 1944 Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Walking Dead, the 1936 Michael Curtiz horror fantasy murderer revenge melodrama ("He died a man with a hunger to love and returned a monster with an instinct to kill!"; "Karloff is coming from beyond the grave!"; about a man who is framed for a murder he didn't commit and is then executed, which would normally be "the end of the story", but in this case, a scientist invents a way to bring him back from the dead, and naturally, he wants to find those who framed him and get revenge!) starring Boris Karloff, Ricardo Cortez, Edmund Gwenn, Marguerite Churchill, Warren Hull, Addison Richards, Barton MacLane, Robert Strange, Paul Harvey, and Henry O'Neill NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three examples of this 1944 re-release one-sheet, and only one in the last 15 years (that one sold for $1,600)! We have never before auctioned the 1936 first release one-sheet. Note that this poster is undated, but it has "Re-release" in small letters in the bottom left, and it is from the first re-release of the movie in 1944. At that time, Warner Bros. and MGM were both suffering from the loss of their major stars to military service (partly because of their great patriotism, and partly because they were in the 90% tax bracket!). Both studios re-released a great number of their best 1930s films in 1942 to 1944, and we know this poster is from exactly 1944, because we have auctioned lobby cards from the same re-release that have an NSS number handwritten on the front and back that is 44-267. Note that some of these 1940s Warner Bros. re-release posters are two-color versions of the first releases, but THIS poster is a really striking full-color poster (and we have never auctioned the 1936 first release one-sheet, and this poster is certainly a great alternative to that impossible-to-find poster!). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on parts of some folds. Its borders were folded back and stapled at one time. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. A talented restorer did a great job with the linenbacking, and it had bright colors, and it will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall! Learn More about condition grades
