An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 28" x 42 1/2" [71 x 108 cm]) (Learn More) The Greatest Mother in the World, the 1918 U.S. World War I (WWI) Home Front charity poster ("Red Cross Christmas roll call Dec. 16-23rd") encouraging people to donate to the Red Cross so that they can provide assistance to those affected by the war, and featuring Alonzo Earl Foringer art of a larger-than-life Red Cross nurse cradling a wounded soldier on a stretcher. Artist: Alonzo Earl Foringer Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had creases and tears in the top blank area extending down as much as 3", but not entering the top of the red cross. There were some tape stains from tape on the back of the tears that had bled through to the front. There was also a 3" diagonal tear near the middle of the right border and a 14" tear near the middle of the left border, entering the bottom of the dress. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
