An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) The Lady Vanishes, the classic 1938 Alfred Hitchcock English mistaken identity romantic mystery crime kidnapping thriller ("From the story 'The Wheel Spins' by Ethel Lina White"; about a young woman on a train who becomes friendly with a fellow passenger, but then the passenger disappears without the train stopping, and no one believes the young woman, not even the two people on her side, or are they?) starring Margaret Lockwood, Michael Redgrave, Paul Lukas, Dame May Whitty (in a memorable role, as "Miss Froy"), Cecil Parker, Linden Travers, Googie Withers, Naunton Wayne, and Basil Radford NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY first release movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two one-sheets (31 years ago which sold for $9,350, and 19 years ago which sold for $5,666), four lobby cards (a group of three 16 years ago which sold for $2,347, and a single lobby card which sold for $1,675), a glass slide, and a handful of stills from this movie (and NO other first release movie paper of any kind) until we received this insert, which is very different from the other posters! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we think it would have a strong chance of lessening its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had two folds with the bottom one at a slight diagonal, with both having creases and tiny paper loss along those folds. It had some creases and scuffs scattered throughout, with some tears and small paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
