Note that there is a mystery surrounding the origins of this poster. It mentions February 21, 1970 at the bottom and the Smithsonian lists it by that date. However, the chart is also in the 2010 book Edible Secrets: A Food Tour of Classified U.S. History by Michael Hoerger, Mia Partlow & Nate Powell. A collector contacted Mr. Powell and he says that Michael Hoerger designed the infographic for the book! The Black Panther Party (BPP) was a revolutionary socialist political organization founded by Marxist college students Bobby Seale and Huey Newton in October of 1966 in Oakland, California. Some have characterized the Black Panther Party as the most influential black movement organization of the late 1960s, while others have described the Party as more criminal than political.
