An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked German Movie Poster (measures 37 1/2" x 50 1/2" [95 x 128 cm]) (Learn More)

Der Fluch der Vererbung: Die Nicht Mutter Werden Durfen (literally translates to "The Curse of Heredity: Those Who Should Not Be Mothers"), the 1927 Adolf Trotz German silent family disease eugenics melodrama (with a tagline that translates to "The burning topic of our time"; about a woman who inherits hemophilia from her father, and she later marries without telling her husband about the disease, and their son dies from the condition) starring Marcella Albani, Maly Delschaft, Carl de Vogt, Frida Richard, Fritz Kampers, Leopold von Ledebur, and Georg John. Note that this may be one of the first German films with an explicitly eugenic agenda. If you are not familiar with eugenics, it is the belief that people with "bad traits" should be sterilized so they can't pass those traits on to their children, and thus "improve" the human race. Planned Parenthood was originally started around this idea (trying to get undesirable people to use birth control), but they later disavowed it. Of course, the greatest proponent of eugenics was Adolf Hitler, who killed literally millions of people that he felt were undesirable, so they could not pass on their genes. It is entirely possible that he saw this movie and that it helped formulate his terrible sick agenda, which caused suffering beyond belief.

Artist: Rehrwioler
Important Added Info: Note that movie paper from this film is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we were consigned this "country of origin" poster for this German movie! Virtually no German posters survive from before World War II since apparently there were many paper shortages in Europe during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before and World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards! Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 37 1/2" x 50 1/2" [95 x 128 cm]. Finally, note that this item contains some nudity, so we have placed a white bar over those areas for those who are bothered by such images. Of course, the actual item does not have the white bars.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was trimmed in the bottom border, and it affects the bottom small credits in the very bottom of the image. The poster also had separation and tiny paper loss on parts of several folds with some smudges and darkening on parts of the folds with smudges in the background areas. It had two areas of paper loss in the upper and lower parts of the right border, very slightly entering the letters at the top and the solid black at the bottom. Someone many years ago had the poster backed using a process similar to gelbacking, but they solely replaced the missing paper and reinforced the borders and folds, but did no restoration to the image itself (surely this was done by a museum). This wonderful poster could be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or one might choose to have a more modern restoration performed and in either case we hope this poster will end up on display, because it deserves to be seen by a wide audience!
