8 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

A Modern Hero, the 1934 G.W. Pabst (Georg Wilhelm Pabst) family relationship romantic melodrama (about a young man who is a circus rider and he has many romances, but when he falls in love, his mother reveals he is the son of a rich man that she couldn't marry, and that knowledge leads him to great financial success, but at great personal cost) starring Richard Barthelmess, Jean Muir, Marjorie Rambeau, Verree Teasdale, Florence Eldridge, Dorothy Burgess, Hobart Cavanaugh, and William Janney. Note that legendary director G.W. Pabst (who had directed Pandora's Box in Germany, and many other highly regarded movies), was talked into coming to Hollywood at this time to make his first U.S. movie. But the experience was not a happy one, and Pabst went to Europe and then returned to Germany at the onset of World War II, and he continued making movies in Germany, including a few during World War II, and around a dozen in the 1950s. This was his only U.S. movie!

Important Added Info: Note that this a very rare complete set of lobby cards for this movie (we have NEVER auctioned any lobby cards for this movie in all of our years of auctioning, and we have only auctioned one one-sheet poster, one window card and an 8x10 still for this title and NO other movie paper for it whatsoever! Also note that that this set of cards which includes the printed envelope this set originally came with, is one of one of a remarkable group of FIFTEEN sets that were recently discovered! All are from 1934 and 1935, and each is in remarkable condition. This is a wonderful opportunity to get complete sets in the best possible condition, and this may not occur again for quite some time (there were only two other sets in this find, "The Phantom Empire", and "Devil Dogs of the Air", and we previously auctioned those two sets by the card). Once these sets are sold there will be no more cards from this find!

Condition: very good to fine. The title card has small surface paper loss in the middle of the right border and a few tiny bits of surface paper loss scattered down the right border with the tiniest of paper loss in the upper right border. The card with the couple toasting has smudges in the right blank border. The card with the sad couple has tiny paper loss in the bottom right corner. Otherwise all of the cards are in really excellent condition (see our images)!
