Date Sold 4/9/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Meloy Bros. Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 40" x 60") (Learn More) Music is Magic, the 1935 George Marshall Hollywood California movie making romantic show business family relationship musical comedy melodrama ("When you're not cheering the music, you're laughing at the fun!"; Bebe Daniels is an aging star who wants the ingenue role in a musical, but she is clearly too old, and the show's director wants beautiful young Alice Faye instead) starring Alice Faye, Ray Walker, Bebe Daniels, Frank Mitchell, Jack Durant (Mitchell and Durant were a comedy team at this time), and Hattie McDaniel. Note that Bebe Daniels was 34 at the time this movie was made, and it is unusual for a female star to be willing to play an "over the hill" type role such as this at such an early age! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of the special 40x60 posters that were created by the Meloy Bros. Inc company of Shelbyville, Indiana in 1935 and 1936! This company created special 40x60 posters that were distributed to theaters in the Midwest, and are NOT like 40x60 posters that were created by the studios at that time. VERY IMPORTANT! CLICK THIS LINK TO READ FULL INFORMATION ABOUT THESE SPECIAL POSTERS (do not bid on this poster until you have read the information on the linked page). Condition: good. There is surface paper loss and tiny paper loss around the edges of the poster (more so in the corners), and the poster is "lifting" from the board in the corners. There are creases and scuffs scattered throughout the poster, more so in the solid background areas, but there ARE some in the stars' faces, most notably two "dot" stains in Faye's cheek and between her eyes (study our super-sized image to see exactly what they are, but they are not very distracting). There are also some other scuffs and smudges throughout the image and some dents and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster (please study our super-sized image to clearly see the above described defects). Certainly, a talented restorer could perform restoration to this poster, after which the defects would not be very noticeable at all, although this poster would require more restoration than some of the other Meloy Bros. posters we are auctioning.
