An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the classic 1939 Alfred L. Werker detective mystery crime thriller sequel ("Based on the play 'Sherlock Holmes' by William Gillette with the permission of the executors of the late Sir Arthur Conan Doyle") starring Basil Rathbone (in the title role as Sherlock Holmes), Nigel Bruce (as Dr. Watson), Ida Lupino, Alan Marshal, Terry Kilburn, George Regas, Henry Stephenson, and E.E. Clive. Note that this is the second Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes movie, and it was released by 20th Century Fox, as was their first film, "The Hound of the Baskervilles". All subsequent Rathbone & Bruce Sherlock Holmes movies were released by Universal! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned ten lobby cards from this movie, but we have NEVER before auctioned this great title card, with a wonderful image of Rathbone and Lupino! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. The card had pinholes around the edges. It had some tears in the left border, with a tear in the top left corner, extending into the background and a tear extending into the bottom of the "S" of "SHERLOCK". It had some stains in that area. Likely, many years ago, someone chose an unusual method of restoration. They put a paper backing over just much of the back of the left border, with an uneven amount extending 1-2" from the edge of the card. Likely they did not want to paperback the entire back of the card, because the rest of it was in generally nice condition. They then performed restoration to the front of the card, and a slight amount in each of the other borders that did not have backing on them, and the card displays really well, but bear all of this in mind before bidding on this very rare and desirable card.
