eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 7h0020 OLD FOLKS AT HOME linen 1sh 1916 close up image of Mildred Harris Chaplin, ultra rare! Date Sold 1/24/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Old Folks at Home, the 1916 Chester Whitey silent romantic political crime murder melodrama ("A Rupert Hughes Story"; about a small town man who is elected state senator, and who moves to the capital with his wife and son, and his son forgets about his hometown sweetheart and falls in with bad men, and kills a man, but at his trial, his mother pleads for mercy for him, and he is found not guilty!) starring Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree (who is best remembered for starring in adaptations of William Shakespeare movies, but who appeared in this non-costume melodrama), Josephine Crowell, Elmer Clifton, Mildred Harris, and Lucille Young. Note that when this movie was made in 1916, Mildred Harris was 14 and had a minor role in this movie as the hometown sweetheart of the star's son. But two years later, she married Charlie Chaplin, and the movie was re-released at some point after that (perhaps in the very late 1910s, but also perhaps in the very early 1920s), and she was actually incredibly deceptively given top billing in the movie as "Mildred Harris Chaplin", to capitalize on her Charlie Chaplin connection, over that of the distinguished Shakespearean actor, Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree (and she only had a minor part)! Important Added Info: Note that we have never auctioned this poster before, but bear in mind its major defects described below. Also note that this is one of 17 linenbacked posters we were consigned that were damaged by water. All of the posters (which we are auctioning in 17 separate auctions) became wet after they were backed, and the owner did not discover it immediately, and they dried out, causing creases and cracking scattered throughout, and they surely have mildew and possibly mold. They ABSOLUTELY need to be removed from the old linen and properly re-backed (during the process, the restorer can kill any living mold or mildew), and afterwards, the poster can again be displayed, but this is a fairly expensive process, so please DO NOT bid on this poster unless you can accept its extremely significant defects and the cost of restoring it. It should be handled very carefully until it is properly restored. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: poor to fair. As described above, the poster was significantly water damaged after it was linenbacked. Our super-sized image gives you a good sense of how the poster currently appears. It absolutely needs to be re-backed by a talented professional, so please very much bear this in mind before bidding on this poster. Due to the poster's much lesser condition, it will not be returnable, so only bid if you are certain you want it. Learn More about condition grades
