An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Daredevil Jack, the 1920 W.S. Van Dyke silent boxing sports cowboy western action adventure starring Jack Dempsey (in the title role as Jack Derry; in his first movie role), Josie Sedgwick, Herschel Mayall, Albert R. Cody, Ruth Langdon, and Lon Chaney. Of course, Jack Dempsey was the heavyweight boxing champion of the world from 1919 to 1926, and was one of the most legendary boxers of all time. He appeared in just three movies while he was champ, and later appeared in cameo roles as himself. Also note that director W.S. Van Dyke had gotten his start as an assistant on D.W. Griffith's "Intolerance" in 1916, and the following year, he was a director of many movies. He directed many westerns and other movies throughout the 1920s, and in 1928, he got his second big break when he helped Robert Flaherty direct "Shadows in the South Seas", and the following year, he was signed by MGM to make "Trader Horn", but it took two years to complete due to all the complications of location filming. The following year, he directed "Tarzan the Ape Man", and the huge success of that movie made him one of the top directors of the 1930s. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Condition: good to very good. There are faint creases around the edges of the still, tiny paper loss in the bottom corners, and the still is very slightly rippled throughout, due to exposure to moisture, but it still displays well.
