150 Million Alert Americans Are a Mighty Force for Peace, the 1952 poster produced by the Federal Civil Defense Administration, encouraging citizens to join the Civil Defense, and featuring art of many volunteers from all walks of life. The United States Civil Defense was an organized non-military effort to prepare Americans for military attack. Over the last few decades, the term and practice of civil defense have fallen into disuse and have been replaced by emergency management and homeland security.
