An Original Vintage Theatrical Kraftbacked Folded Chapter #6 (The Fight At Lion's Pit) One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The King of the Kongo, the 1929 Richard Thorpe Africa action adventure romantic jungle serial ("A Wild Animal Serial in Ten Thrilling Chapters") starring Jacqueline Logan, Walter Miller, Richard Tucker, Boris Karloff, Larry Steers, and Joe Bonomo (famous early strongman, as the gorilla, and he also played one of the gorillas in 1932's "Murders in the Rue Morgue"!). Note that while this movie was released in a silent version, it also had a "part talking" version, which made this the first sound serial! Also note that Boris Karloff did not receive billing on the posters for this serial! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the man on the left of this poster looks like he could be Boris Karloff, based on the look of his face. However, his character in the movie is the villain, who fights the lead characters, but of course, we have not seen the entire serial, and there might be a scene where he fights with the lead characters, and of course, the poster artist could simply have taken artistic license in putting him on the poster. UPDATE: A knowledgeable collector tells us that it is Richard Neil and not Karloff. Neil played a prisoner but he doesn't get released until chapter 9 (but the artist used him on the chapter 6 poster anyhow). Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare (surely paper from it is among the most rare of ANY sound serial there is). We have only previously auctioned a chapter 7 one-sheet (8 years ago), five lobby cards, and some heralds from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this chapter 6 one-sheet! Note that this poster has been kraftbacked, which means it was backed onto a brown paper soon after it was printed (this process is called "kraft-backing", and posters with it are called "kraft-backed"). One could have it professionally removed from the kraft paper and linenbacked, and it would look great! Condition: good to very good. The poster was mounted on to kraft paper (see above). This was surely done soon after the poster was created. It has pinholes around the edges and some tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. After a simple linenbacking it should display really well! Learn More about condition grades
