An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 39 1/4" x 59 1/4" [100 x 150 cm]) (Learn More) Wife Vs. Secretary, the 1936 Clarence Brown romantic love misunderstanding comedy (about a happily married couple; the husband has a beautiful secretary, and the wife misunderstands something that happens and she thinks that her husband might be having an affair) starring Clark Gable, Jean Harlow (in the title role as the secretary, Helen Wilson), Myrna Loy (in the title role as the wife, Linda Stanhope), May Robson, George Barbier, James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart; in his fourth movie role!), Hobart Cavanaugh, and John Qualen. Note that Jean Harlow plays Clark Gable's secretary, and in the movie, he is madly in love with wife Myrna Loy, and it is only a misunderstanding that causes Loy to think there is something between Gable and Harlow, and the entire movie is very innocent. Note too that Harlow's boyfriend is played by an extremely young Jimmy Stewart! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned three examples of this poster, and the last one was 10 years ago! However, each of those three posters were mounted to a very heavy board, and therefore had to be sent to the winning bidder in a very large flat package. But the owner of this poster did something very special with it! When he acquired it, it was on a heavy board (it might have been one of the three we previously auctioned), and he gave it to an expert restorer, who removed it from the heavy board and linenbacked it, which means that it can now be rolled and sent in a tube that measures 42" long. This also allowed the restorer to perform restoration to the poster, so it displays really well, which gives it a big plus over the ones on a heavy board! Note that this poster is a special 40" by 60" poster that was created by the "Meloy Bros. Inc" company of Shelbyville, Indiana in 1935 and 1936! This company created special 40" x 60" posters that were distributed to theaters in the Midwest, and are NOT like 40" x 60" posters that were created by the studios at that time. VERY IMPORTANT! CLICK ON THIS LINK TO READ FULL INFORMATION ABOUT THESE SPECIAL POSTERS (do not bid on this set of five posters until you have read the information on the linked page). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. As noted above, when the poster was created, it was mounted on a heavy board. Someone removed that board and then mounted it onto linen, but otherwise did very little restoration. The poster had some creases, tears, and scuffs scattered throughout, including some in the stars' faces, with some stains in the words "WIFE" and "SECRETARY" (and those two words had been painted over to cover the stains). Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster has had little restoration except for the painting of the two words described above, so bear its defects in mind before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
