One version has a tagline just under Dean's credit that reads "The overnight sensation of 'East of Eden' becomes the star of the year!". When Dean passed away while the movie was still in first release, someone at the studio thought the tagline was now in bad taste, and new one-sheets were printed that only had the first half of the tagline, "The overnight sensation of 'East of Eden'. So there are one-sheets with the full tagline and others with the shorter one. There are also ones that originally had the full tagline, but the last half of it was sniped over (no doubt because the studio recommended it). This poster is the one that was printed with just the first part of the tagline. We don't know of collectors who value the two versions differently, but bear this in mind if you do care! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had separation, small tears, and paper loss on parts of all the folds. It had a long irregular tear starting in the left border to the left of the top of the title, and running up through the tagline area to Dean's sleeve, with some paper loss along that tear. There were also pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Surprisingly, the poster displays pretty well in spite of its many defects, but you can clearly see signs of the restoration, so many people would likely want to choose to have the poster re-backed.
