An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 18") (Learn More) Belle of the Nineties (some movie paper was prepared with the working title "It Ain't No Sin"), the 1934 Leo McCarey riverboat entertainer romantic comedy ( "Mae West.... in the picture the whole country is talking about"; about a sexy cabaret entertainer who has a tough boxer boyfriend, but who attracts the attention of every man who sees her) starring Mae West, Roger Pryor, Johnny Mack Brown, Katherine DeMille, John Miljan, Libby Taylor, and Duke Ellington's Orchestra. Note that the movie's working title was "It Ain't No Sin", but the censors refused to allow it, and it was changed, even though some posters exist with that title. They tried to change the title to "St. Louis Woman", but the residents of that city protested, and their next title was "Belle of New Orleans", but they received similar protests, and they settled on the non-controversial "Belle of the Nineties"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this window card has had its top blank area trimmed and it now measures 14" x 18". Condition: good. The top blank border of the card was trimmed and there was a 10" razor cut up the bottom right of the card (extending into West's shoulder and the edge of her hair). There were two similar 4" razor cuts in the left of the bottom border and some stains around the edges of the card. Some restorer simply backed the card as is onto a linen backing, but did no restoration (simply backing the card made the three razor cuts much less noticeable). At some point after the card was backed, it was roughly handled, and there is now a diagonal crack in the bottom right of the card, in both the card and the linen. Any talented restorer could easily remove the card from the linenbacking, and after proper paperbacking, the card will look fantastic and will require little paint restoration anywhere in the image!
