An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More)

G.O.G. (also released as "GOG, The Killer"), the 1954 Herbert L. Strock science fiction (sci-fi) robot monster horror thriller ("Its brain - an electronic miracle! It's body - chilled, invincible steel! Its purpose - to serve men! Then - suddenly - it became a Frankenstein!"; "Frankenstein of Steel"; "...and then, without warning, the machine became a Frankenstein of steel!"; "Thrill to miracles of science beyond imagination"; "...sound that can kill! ...light that melts steel!"; "...cold that brings immortality!"; "...men and women lighter than air!"; "...an electronic miracle brain!"; "...robots that think!"; "...a station in space!"; "and the incredible moment when The Machines Destroy The Makers!"; "Built to serve man... it could think a thousand times faster! Move a thousand times faster! Kill a thousand times faster ...Then suddenly it became a Frankenstein of steel!"; "Based on a story by Ivan Tors") starring Richard Egan, Constance Dowling, Herbert Marshall, John Wengraf, and Philip Van Zandt. Note that this might have been one of the worst titles ever, because absolutely nobody knew what "GOG" meant, and it certainly didn't attract anybody to the theaters! They tried to make things better be re-titling it "GOG, the Killer", but that really didn't convey the idea of a robot gone wild (and they did this after the posters were printed, so they sent ugly snipes that were glued over the original title!).

Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). Note that we gave this condition grade to a very few posters that were in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, but which were not all that well linenbacked, and which could be fairly easily re-backed with only minor additional restoration.

The poster had creases and some scuff marks in the vertical foldline in the 5" directly above the top crossfold and a tack hole and minor scuffs 1" to the right of the middle crossfold. There was small paper loss at the top crossfold and some smudges and tiny tears in the top foldline and there were pinholes in the corners and other minor border defects. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the tiny defects, but they are really not at all distracting (and any restorer could easily touch them up without re-backing the poster).
