An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Swing Time, the 1936 George Stevens romantic love triangle musical dancing comedy ("With six new haunting melodies by Jerome Kern composer of 'Roberta'"; "Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers in the captivating climax of their gay young lives!..."; about a man and woman who are supposed to marry others, but they end up falling in love with each other) starring Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Victor Moore, Helen Broderick, Eric Blore, Betty Furness, Georges Metaxa, and Dennis O'Keefe. Note that this was one of the nine wonderful movies that Astaire and Rogers made between 1933 and 1939 (they made one final movie, "The Barkleys of Broadway", thirteen years later in 1949).

Important Added Info: Note that this is an incredibly rare poster. We auctioned the exact same poster in 2013, and that was the only time we have ever auctioned it. The person who bought it in that auction has re-consigned it to us now, and it is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Also note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thinner paper backing, it COULD be sent rolled, but we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package (because we fear that rolling it, even into a wide tube, would have an excellent change of damaging it, so we will only send it in a tube if the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage), but otherwise, we will ship it in a large flat package, so bear that expense in mind before bidding on this poster.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. There was a thin strip of paper loss in the top border, starting 2" to the right of the center, running down into the right edge of the "R" of "GINGER" and into the right of the "R" below it. It had a vertical tear down the center starting in the center of the top border and running down through the right of the "G" of "SWING" in the title, and then it continued at a slight diagonal down into Rogers' green dress. There was also an upside-down V-shaped tear that started at the bottom right corner of the "G" and went up into Rogers' dress, and then back down into the middle of her dress. There were two 7" diagonal tears in the lower right corner, extending into the bottom right credits box. There were many pinholes, tears, and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster, slightly extending into the edges of the image. There was a 5" diagonal tear in the left of the top border that extended into the top of the "ST" of "ASTAIRE". There were some pinholes, scuffs, and smudges scattered in the image and there was a small circular area of paper loss in the "W" of "SWING", and some stains and smudges in the other letters of the title. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects, and the restorer painted over all of the white and yellow of the letters of the title and Astaire & Rogers' credits, to "even them out", and they also painted over the blank borders. But overall, the poster displays pretty well and will look great on the new owners' wall!
