NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Bob McCall Important Added Info: Note that when this classic movie was first release in 1968, it was in a very limited release in theaters that showed it in Cinerama. MGM made three different one-sheets for this Cinerama release. The style A Cinerama poster had the classic "space wheel" art. The style C Cinerama poster had the "centrifuge" art. The style B Cinerama poster had the art of men walking on the moon, and those posters were stamped "1SH DES B MOON MEN" on the back, but they don't say style B on the front. When we auction these posters (which are many times more rare than the "non-Cinerama" one-sheets, which were used when the movie went into general release to theaters that did not have Cinerama equipment), we identify them as style A, style B, or style C. This Cinerama style B "moon men" style we are auctioning in this auction is far more rare than the other two Cinerama styles (we have previously auctioned 9 of the Cinerama style A posters, 4 of the Cinerama style C posters, and we have only once before auctioned this Cinerama style B "moon men" style (it sold for $1,550, and that one was linenbacked, and this one is not). Condition: good. The poster was used by a theater that did not show the movie in Cinerama, and they put a piece of black tape over the Cinerama logo at the bottom of the poster. They also glued a "G" rating box next to that. The poster also has tiny creases and some fine surface paper loss on parts of the folds. Someone put a 1" piece of tape on the back of the center of the top border, where there was separation, and there is a 1/2" tear in the right of the top border. We don't know how "removable" the tape over the Cinerama logo is. Based on past experience with other posters with similar tape, we know there is a real possibility that even the best professional could only remove the tape in a way that would also remove some or most of the Cinerama logo under it, in which case, that portion would need to be partially or completely repainted. And of course, at the same time, the "G" rating snipe would be removed. WE MAKE NO GUARANTEE ABOUT THE TAPE AT THE BOTTOM, SO PLEASE ONLY BID ON THIS POSTER IF YOU CAN ACCEPT THAT THE AREA UNDER THE TAPE MAY NEED TO BE COMPLETELY REPAINTED (and of course, one could instead choose to simply display this extremely rare poster as it is).
