An Original Vintage Linenbacked French World War I War Bonds Poster (measures 31 1/4" x 47" [79 x 119 cm]) (Learn More) Debout Dans la Tranchee Que l'Aurore Eclaire (literally translates to "Standing in the Trench that the Dawn Illuminates"), the 1917 French World War I (WWI) War Bond poster (with a tagline that translates to "Standing in the trench that the dawn illuminates, the soldier awakens to victory and to his home. Subscribe to the 3rd National Defense Loan") encouraging French citizens to buy war bonds, and featuring Lieutenant Jean Droit art of a French soldier. Artist: Lieutenant Jean Droit Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had darkened somewhat. It had small paper loss at some crossfolds and minor wear on the foldlines. There was a thin strip of paper loss in the top of the left blank border and two 3" tears in the bottom border and paper loss in the bottom right blank corner. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and any restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
