An Undated (probably 1918) Re-Release (re-titled "The Good For Nothing" for this re-release) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) His New Profession, the 1914 Charlie Chaplin silent comedy short starring Charles Chaplin, Charley Chase (primarily remembered as a great silent comedian who appeared in 276 movies, most of them comedy shorts, Chase also directed 140 comedy shorts), Peggy Page, Jess Dandy, Cecile Arnold, and Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is definitely a re-release, because it says "Former Title HIS NEW PROFESSION" in the bottom left. But because the only items we have seen from W.H. Productions seem to be from the mid 1910s, we suspect that this is a re-release from the mid 1910s as well.
UPDATED 04/12/2015: Note that a knowledgeable collector sent us information that indicates that this poster is likely from 1918. W.H Productions (which stood for "Wonderful Hits") re-released 750 Keystone comedies in 1918, including several Chaplin shorts. This poster is almost certainly from these re-releases and is extremely rare (we have never seen it before). We've only seen three glass slides from other W.H Productions re-releases, and no other movie paper from the W.H. Productions Keystone re-releases! Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had a 1" x 3" area of paper loss just to the right of the bottom crossfold affecting one of the woman's shoes and one of Chaplin's shoes and the background in between. There was a 1/2" x 4" area of paper loss at the middle crossfold that affected the woman's knee and the left of Chaplin's knee, with a small area of paper loss in the center of Chaplin's knee. There was small paper loss at the top crossfold and also 3" to the right of that in Chaplin's upper arm. Other than these areas of paper loss, the rest of the image had only minor wear on the foldlines and the entire rest of the image of Chaplin was in excellent condition. The poster had some tears and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. A really wonderful restorer incredibly carefully re-created the missing areas described above (which fell in clothing areas as specified) and the poster displays fantastically (and few people would realize the restoration even looking at the poster from very close up!).
