A Folded 1950s Commercial Poster (made to be sold directly to the public; measures 21 1/2" x 62" [55 x 157 cm]) (Learn More) Jayne Mansfield was an actress from the 1950s to the 1960s. Some of her movies include: Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?, The Girl Can't Help It, and A Guide for the Married Man. She never achieved the kind of mainstream success that Marilyn Monroe did, and she died tragically in an auto accident in 1967 at the age of 34. She was previously married to weightlifter Mickey Hargitay, and her daughter with Hargitay is Mariska Hargitay (the TV actress best known for her work on "Law and Order: SVU") If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a commercial poster that was surely sold by mail order for $1 at some point in the 1950s, at the height of Miss Mansfield's fame. In the lower left, it says "JAYNE MANSFIELD Photograph by Ormond Gigli of Rapho-Guillumette" and in the lower right it says "Hillman Periodicals 535 5th Avenue New York 17, NY, Printed in USA". What is really cool about this poster is that it comes with the printed envelope this item originally came with, which is a wonderful heavy paper envelope with a printed full-color ad on the front of it (which was surely used as an ad in magazines). We know that the poster is rare, but we imagine that the full-color envelope is far more rare, and yet, the winner of this auction will receive both items! Condition: good to very good.
