Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet (measures 22" x 28") (Learn More) Follow the Fleet, the classic 1936 Mark Sandrich military Navy sailor romantic musical ("Clear the decks for action!..."; "They're the life of the Navy... in the musical gem of the ocean!"; "Irving Berlin composed the salty songs and tantalizing tunes"; "A 21-gun salute to the mirth of a nation! ...with more new dances... more new songs... more new things to make you laugh and thrill and tingle than you've ever seen or heard before!"; "In the Super-Dreadnaught of musical shows"; "Strike up the band!... Here come the king and queen rhythm... in the super-dread-naught of musical shows!"; "Based on the play 'Shore Leave' by Hubert Osborne"; "Lyrics and music by Irving Berlin who gives you a broadside of Song Hits"; about two sailors on leave in San Francisco and they are romancing two pretty performers) starring Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Randolph Scott, Betty Grable, Harriet Hilliard (billed as "Harriet Nelson"), Astrid Allwyn, Lucille Ball, "and scores of glorious girls and go-get 'em gobs hitting the high spots afloat and ashore!". Note that this was one of the nine wonderful movies that Astaire and Rogers made between 1933 and 1939 (they made one final movie, "The Barkleys of Broadway", thirteen years later in 1949). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 20" x 25 1/2". It comes from a newly discovered collection of 18 early 1930s half-sheets, all of which had the blank borders trimmed (sometimes the trimming went into the image). We have left all the posters exactly as they were found, both so that the eventual buyer could see exactly what condition the poster was in, but also so that they could decide how much restoration to do, if any, and to choose which restorer to use.
There are many rare and desirable titles (some of these may be the only surviving copy!), and it would not surprise us if some of these posters end up (restored and looking mint) in some fancy big city auctions, going for jillions of dollars! But there is every possibility that some lucky eBayers may get to purchase one or more of these for bargain prices as all of them start at $2.99, with no reserve! However, these posters clearly have real defects, so please don't bid on any of them unless you can live with them as is, or are willing to have them restored (if properly restored, they will look wonderful). Condition: fair. In addition to being trimmed, the poster has the following defects: There is a small corner off of the upper right blue background, but otherwise it appears that what was trimmed off was virtually entirely only the blank border. There is a thin triangular piece that separated from the lower left corner (going through the "B" of "BERLIN") that is attached from the back with a piece of tape. There are water stains in the top 4" of the poster and lesser water stains running down the center of the poster. These are most noticeable in the sailor's cap of Astaire's image at the upper left and in the head of the dancing Astaire image. A talented restorer could surely remove these water stains at the same time they would restore the missing borders, and this poster would look wonderful! Learn More about condition grades
