An Original Vintage Unfolded World War I Poster (measures 21" x 29 1/4" [53 x 74 cm]) (Learn More) A Thrift Stamp, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) War Bond poster ("4 every day"; "Every 6 hours a ship is launched to carry our boys 'over there'"; "A day will help to pay the way"; "The liberty motor truck"; "35,000 of these trucks equipped with the famous liberty motor have been ordered by Uncle Sam"; "A day will move a truck 6 miles"). Note that the purpose of thrift stamps was to allow individuals without the means to purchase a war savings certificate stamp outright to gradually accumulate enough Thrift stamps to exchange for one later. The Treasury supplied thrift cards, to which a total of sixteen thrift stamps could be affixed. A full thrift card was worth four dollars and could be combined with the appropriate number of cents to purchase a War Savings Certificate stamp! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Note also that this is one of a excellent collection of eight World War I "war bonds" posters which we were consigned by someone who bought them many years ago and we are auctioning them in eight separate auctions!
