His father was major silent stage and screen star, Jason Robards Sr. He had limited success in New York City in theater, TV, and radio before becoming a star with his lead role on the stage in "The Iceman Cometh", which he immediately followed with the lead role in "Long Day's Journey Into Night" (both plays by Eugene O'Neill). He was married to Lauren Bacall for many years. Some of his movies include: Melvin & Howard (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Once Upon a Time in the West, A Thousand Clowns, Toys in the Attic, All The President's Men (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), and Julia (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film).
