An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Pete the Dog (also known as Pete the Pup) was a character in Hal Roach's Our Gang (Little Rascals) comedies from the 1920s to the 1930s. Pete was Spanky's dog and was well-known for having a circle around his eye. Information about the dogs who played the character is often confusing and even conflicting, especially regarding the breed. Starting in 1926 (or 1927), the character was played by Pal the Wonder Dog (also known as The Wonder Dog Pal), who was claimed to be an American Pit Bull Terrier by some sources. When Pal died from poisoning in 1930, he was replaced by his offspring named Lucenay's Peter, who was claimed to be an American Staffordshire Terrier by some sources. Lucenay's Peter retired from the part in 1931 (or 1932). After that, various unrelated dogs played the character up until 1938.
Important Added Info: Note that this is one of three wonderful stills we were consigned from 1935 that show Stymie, Spanky, and Pete the Dog all advertising Our Gang pencil sharpeners. Each is in its own auction!

Condition: good to very good. The still has discolored because of the snipe on the back, but it is not very distracting, and is otherwise in excellent condition!
