An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Autographed French Large Movie Poster (31x47; measures 31 1/2" x 47 1/4" [80 x 120 cm]) (Learn More) Lions Love, the 1970 Agnes Varda French/U.S. cinema verite comedy melodrama starring Viva, James Rado, Gerome Ragni, Shirley Clarke, Carlos Clarens, and Eddie Constantine. French director Agnes Varda was a fan of Andy Warhol's bizarre cinema verite movies, and she came to America to make her own, and the result was this! It has no real plot, but has Andy Warhol's Viva, plus Rado and Ragni (two of the creators of the classic musical "Hair"), plus documentary filmmaker Shirley Clarke, and the entire movie seems improvised on the spot! Note that this movie was released in the U.S. at the New York Film Festival in September of 1969, but the only U.S. items we have seen are stills that are dated 1970 (we would be pretty amazed if this movie got a wide release in the U.S., but it is certainly possible, and that release would likely have occurred in 1970 after the film festival). Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been personally autographed (signed) by Agnes Varda! Note that we have only twice before auctioned this French poster (only one in the last 12 years, and that last example sold for $700, and of course, that one was not signed, and this one has the great added addition of being signed by the director!), which is a "country of origin" poster for this partially French movie! Our consignor personally obtained this signature when he met Agnes Varda in person when she was a guest at the Argenteuil Poster Show in 2001 (and note she made the choice to sign it between the legs of the heroine of the movie!). He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we are certain the signature is authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
