Date Sold 5/30/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1936 Re-Release Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) A Connecticut Yankee by Mark Twain, the 1931 David Butler fantasy time travel comedy spoof ("By Mark Twain"; about a small town man who meets an inventor who thinks he can contact King Arthur by radio; after the typical "bump on the head", Rogers wakes up in the real life Camelot, and has many adventures before returning to the present day; as in "The Wizard of Oz", the Camelot characters and the present day characters are played by the same actors) starring Will Rogers, Maureen O'Sullivan (in her fifth movie, and she is second billed!), Myrna Loy, Frank Albertson, William Farnum (as King Arthur/Inventor), and Brandon Hurst (as Merlin/Doctor) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning (and we have also never auctioned a first release insert, and first release posters of any size are extremely rare)! Also note that in the 1931 posters Will Rogers was billed very large and Maureen O'Sullivan, Frank Albertson and Myrna Loy were billed much smaller and equal size. By 1936, when this re-release took place (see below), Myrna Loy's "star" had risen considerably, and she now received second billing in a larger size than Maureen O'Sullivan (whose star had also risen), and poor Frank Albertson was not credited at all! Note also that Will Rogers was the foremost movie star for Fox Pictures in the early 1930s, and was at the height of his career when he was killed in a plane crash in 1935. Fox had just merged with Twentieth Century Pictures to form 20th Century Fox (Rogers had made one movie for the combined company), and immediately after his death, and for the year after, 20th Century Fox re-issued all of his sound movies. This item is from the 1936 re-release of Rogers' 1931 "A Connecticut Yankee". Note finally that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster has a slightly diagonal extra horizontal crease just above the upper horizontal fold and just below the lower horizontal fold (see our image). There are some pinholes at upper center and there is some tiny pencil writing at lower right in the blank border edge. There is minor scuffing at upper right in the background and there is a tiny dot stain to the left of the title, but otherwise the very rare poster is generally in pretty nice condition!
