An Original Vintage German Film Program (measures 8 3/4" x 11 1/2" [22 x 29 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Alraune (released in the U.S. in 1934 as "Daughter of Evil"), the 1930 Richard Oswald German science fiction (sci-fi) horror thriller (based on the novel by Hanns Heinz Ewers; about a scientist wanting to find out if a person's personality is genetic or environmental; he artificially inseminates a prostitute with the semen of a hanged man [which, in German mythology, was used to grow the "mandrake root", and in some myths it is the blood that is the source, and sometimes the root was given to a woman wanting to become pregnant, and supposedly eating it could make her pregnant, but the resulting child would grow into a soulless person], to see if the resulting child is doomed to grow up evil in spite of good upbringing; he raises the girl himself telling her he is her father, and she does in some ways become evil, and worse yet, her "father" is drawn to her, and when she rejects him, he goes insane) starring Brigitte Helm (best remembered for her starring role in Fritz Lang's "Metropolis"; in the title role as Alraune/Alma), Albert Basserman, Harald Paulsen, Adolf E. Licho, and Agnes Straub. Note that this was a sound remake of the 1928 film of the same name. That film also starred Brigitte Helm, but the rest of the cast was mostly different, and only a reconstructed version of that movie exists, but based on that, this movie was both more faithful to the book and also far more explicit in its scenes of the relationship between the creator and his creation (quite daring for its time). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" item for this German movie! Also note that we have provided an image of four of the pages of this 8-page program (we did this by opening it and laying it flat and photographing the front and back cover together, and two of the interior pages together). You can see the four of the 8 pages, and can well determine the exact condition of it from our super-sized image, but realize that there are 4 pages you are not seeing. But of course this means that the front cover appears in the top right of our image, but normally, the program would be folded down the center and you would view the cover by itself (and it will be sent folded as was originally intended). Condition: fair to good. There are partial punch holes at the spine and many small defects around the edges. The program was folded across the middle (see our images).
