An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" [19 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Great K and A Train Robbery, the 1926 Lewis Seiler silent railroad detective cowboy western ("The foremost western thriller of the greatest western star"' "From Paul Leicester Ford's novel"; about a detective who is called in to solve a series of train robberies, and he poses as a masked outlaw in order to join the gang and arrest them!) starring Tom Mix, Tony ("the wonder horse"), Dorothy Dwan, Will Walling, Harry Gripp (billed as "Harry Grippe"), and John Wayne (who had a bit part in the movie and was also the property boy). Note that this movie is considered one of Tom Mix's very best! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this still was consigned to us by legendary collector/dealer Marty Davis! Marty was hired in 1972 to evaluate the entire collection of W. Ward Marsh (1893-1971), who was the film critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1919, until his retirement in 1970. In 1919 Marsh wrote his first of 23,000 movie reviews for the Plain Dealer. Marsh died less than a year after his retirement in 1970. His library, and photographic and memorabilia archives were given to the proprietor of Cleveland's finest bookstore. Marty Davis was the first person with a background in film history and collectibles to examine the archives. He worked for three to four hours a day, for six months, and his compensation was his pick of the archives. This still is from the W. Ward Marsh archives, and it was stamped on the back by Marty Davis to indicate that it came from this legendary collection. Also note that this still has been trimmed and it now measures 7 1/2" x 9 3/4" [19 x 25 cm]. Condition: good. Three of the blank borders were trimmed off. The still was used in a newspaper, and someone used a sharp object to trace around Mix's cowboy hat and body and the train tracks (this was often done, because it enhanced how the photo appeared in the magazine). It is not very noticeable at all when the still is looked at head on, but it is very noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. Learn More about condition grades
