A 1948 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Anna Karenina, the 1935 Clarence Brown Russia romantic marriage melodrama (based on the novel by Leo Tolstoy; produced by David O. Selznick) starring Greta Garbo (in the title role as Anna Karenina), Fredric March (as Vronsky), Freddie Bartholomew ("[David Copperfield]"), Maureen O'Sullivan, Basil Rathbone, Reginald Denny, and Mischa Auer. Note that this had been one of Greta Garbo's biggest hits in 1927 when it was titled "Love", as a silent movie, and she remade it in 1935, replacing John Gilbert with Fredric March. Important Added Info: Note that during World War II, the major studios had a shortage of new movies to release, because so many of their male stars were serving in the military. We believe this poster is from the early 1940s (possibly 1942), based on the litho number, the style of printing, and the age of the paper. Condition: good to very good. The blank borders of the poster were trimmed off. There was tiny paper loss at the top crossfold and creases and scuffs and a few tiny tears on parts of some foldlines and around the edges of the poster that was not trimmed. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed. The person who did the restoration only did slight touch up to the border defects, and they added new borders which are a solid white color, as opposed to the creamy color of the original paper.
