An Original 1959 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 23 1/2" x 31 3/4" [60 x 81 cm]) (Learn More) Dracula (released in the U.S. as "Horror of Dracula" and "Dracula 1958"), the classic 1958 Terence Fisher English Hammer vampire horror thriller ("The chill of the tomb won't leave your blood for hours... After you come face-to-face with Dracula !"; "Who will be his bride tonight?"; "The terrifying lover who died... Yet lived!"; "The chill of the tomb won't leave your blood for hours... after you come face-to-face with Dracula !"; "Don't dare see it... alone!"; "All New! In Brilliant Technicolor!"; "Screenplay by Jimmy Sangster"; "From the novel by Bram Stoker") starring Peter Cushing (as Doctor Van Helsing), Michael Gough, Melissa Stribling, Carol Marsh, Christopher Lee (in the title role "as Dracula"), John Van Eyssen, Valerie Gaunt, and Janina Faye. Note that this was the very first of the Hammer Dracula movies! Given how popular they are today, it seems surprising that it took two years to make a sequel (The Brides of Dracula in 1960), and even more surprising that Christopher Lee did not reprise his role (David Peel took over in this one). To be fair, Christopher Lee had played Sherlock Holmes in the interim, and that was probably more interesting to him. Hammer and he didn't return to Dracula until 1966 with Dracula: Prince of Darkness, and there were five more Dracula Hammer movies between 1968 and 1972! Artist: Guy Gerard Noel Important Added Info: Note that we once had a French pressbook, but we have never had even one first release French poster from this Hammer horror movie, until we were consigned this wonderful poster! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had several extra light horizontal folds near the top and one 2" below the regular top fold. There were some tiny bits of paper loss scattered on parts of most folds. There were some tears and tiny paper loss in the top left background area. There were some tears and tiny paper loss in parts of some of the letters of the title. There were pinholes, tears, and small paper loss in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. A talented restorer did a wonderful job of restoring and backing this poster, because not only does it display really well, but it also does not look "heavily restored" (although the blank borders were painted over, to "even them out"), and it will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall!
