An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Princesse Tam-Tam (released in the U.S. in 1938 as "Princess Tam-Tam" and re-released as "The Flame of Paris"), the 1935 Edmond T. Greville French royalty comedy ("The exotic daring sensation direct from Paris!"; "See the teasing torso twisting dance of the leopards!"; loosely based on 'Pygmalion' by George Bernard Shaw) starring Josephine Baker (in the title role as Alwina), Albert Prejean, Robert Arnoux, Germaine Aussey, and Jean Galland. Note that this move failed to receive the Production Code Administration's Seal of Approval due to the insinuation of an interracial relationship, and did not have a wide U.S. release. But as proven by newspaper ads, some U.S. theaters did show it in 1938, but it's very likely that no posters were created for these showings. It was re-released in the 1950s by both Hoffberg Productions (possibly in 1951) and Toddy Pictures (possibly in 1952) based on Box Office exhibitor magazine articles. Promotional items from these re-releases are likely the earliest U.S. promotional material that is available. It was re-released again in 1989 by Kino International.
