Date Sold 12/20/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Linenbacked Music Poster (measures 25 1/2" x 36 1/4" [65 x 92 cm]) (Learn More) Billie Holiday was a prominent black African American figure in jazz music from the 1930s to the 1950s. She had small appearances in two movies (New Orleans and Symphony in Black), and she also appeared in a jazz musical short called "'Sugar Chile' Robinson, Billie Holiday, Count Basie and His Sextet". Diana Ross' movie, "Lady Sings the Blues", is about Billie Holiday's life, but her name is not used. Some of her works include: Riffin' the Scotch, The Way You Look Tonight, and Carelessly. She passed away in 1959 at the age of 44. She suffered from cirrhosis, and in an incredibly sad course of events, she was arrested and handcuffed for drug possession as she lay on her deathbed. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that based on the songs listed on the poster, we are pretty certain that it is NOT from when this album was first released in 1957, but rather that it is from the first domestic CD release of the album in 1983. This is because the 1983 CD had only 6 songs and the album had 10 songs when it was first released in 1957. We can't find ANYONE who has sold this poster, which seems very strange, but that certainly makes it quite rare and extremely desirable (especially because there are probably no existing posters from the 1957 album release). If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. We previously auctioned this exact poster, which has now been reconsigned to us, so it is still the only example we have ever auctioned! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had creases and scuffs scattered down the center of the image and in the lower left of the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Backing the poster has diminished how noticeable the creases and scuffs are, but bear them in mind when bidding on this really cool poster. Learn More about condition grades
