An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) No Way Out, the 1950 Joseph L. Mankiewicz race relations crime film noir ("Is it a question... Or an answer"; "an entertainment with a great courageous theme reaching to new heights of screen dynamics with seven new conceptions of dramatic portrayal"; "Don't miss it!"; "All colored cast"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck and Written by Joseph L. Mankiewicz & Lesser Samuels) starring Richard Widmark, Linda Darnell, Stephen McNally, Sidney Poitier (in his first major film), Mildred Joanne Smith (in her only movie appearance, as Poitier's wife), Harry Bellaver, Stanley Ridges, Dots Johnson, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Francine Everett, Frederick O'Neal, and Davis Roberts NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Erik Nitsche Important Added Info: Note that the unusual image on this very striking poster (which is mostly a solid background with cut-outs of Widmark's eyes and a terrified Darnell being grabbed) was decades ahead of its time (and we don't know how the studios or moviegoers reacted to this most unusual image). One unifying image from the No Way Out advertising campaign is the provocative handcuffs/bed image (first suggested by Saul Bass) which Bass, Paul Rand and Nitsche all used in their designs. This is a very rare poster that have only previously auctioned one time, and that was 8 years ago! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we think it would have a strong chance of lessening its condition, so we will only send it in a large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had some creases along the folds. It had creases and scuffs scattered in the solid background areas. It had a few pinholes, tears, and many creases around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Note that the restorer left 1/2" of excess paper backing around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
