Date Sold 10/27/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Ape, the 1940 William Nigh mad scientist horror thriller ("Suggested by the play by Adam Hull Shirk. Adaption by Curt Siodmak"; although his name this time is spelled "Kurt"; Siodmak must have had a real ape fetish, as he wrote most of the cheesy ape-type movies of the 1940s, including "Bride of the Gorilla", and many other B-horror movie classics!) starring Boris Karloff, Maris Wrixon, Gertrude Hoffman, Henry Hall, Gene O'Donnell, and Ray 'Crash' Corrigan (as the man in the really fake ape suit!). Note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that, for unknown reasons, the posters from this movie are quite rare! In the past, we have only auctioned two one-sheets, and one style of half-sheet, and no other posters. Now, we have been consigned the other style half-sheet for this movie, which is a poster we have never auctioned before! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair to good. The poster had creases along the right half of the horizontal fold and many creases scattered down the center of the poster, with a few in the black background next to the ape. There were several tears around the edges of the poster, some extending into the image, and some have tape on the back. Someone put an 8" piece of brown tape on the back of the center of the vertical fold. There are pinholes, smudges, and some stains around the edges, with some scuffs scattered through the image. There is small paper loss in two blank corners. While I would think some collectors could still display this poster on their wall as it is, it can of course be restored, but please bear in mind its condition defects and the cost of restoration before placing a bid on it.
