A 1949 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Gunga Din, the classic 1939 George Stevens British-in-India military romantic war melodrama ("Inspired by Rudyard Kipling's poem"; "Inspired by Rudyard Kipling's heroic lines"; "Out of the stirring glory of Kipling's seething India they roar - three fighting, loving, swaggering sons of the lusty Battalions... in the picture that's too big for words!"; "The giant of all romance - action shows!"; "Red-blood and gunpowder heroes... roaring for battle or ready for love!"; "From a Story by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur"; note that IMDB lists William Faulkner as an uncredited writer for this movie) starring Cary Grant, Victor McLaglen, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Sam Jaffe (in the title role as Gunga Din), Eduardo Ciannelli, Joan Fontaine, and Robert Coote NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfolds and fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines, with small tears and tiny paper loss in the bottom of the vertical foldline. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was simply mounted onto a thin linen with no excess, and no restoration was performed. Someone put a 1" x 10" piece of paper tape in the center of the top blank border to cover play dates that were written in that area. If I owned this cool poster, I would have it removed from the thin backing and have it properly linenbacked, and it would not require much paint restoration at all. Learn More about condition grades
