LIGHTS OF NEW YORK ('28) LIGHTS OF NEW YORK ('28) WC, jumbo OR search current auctions Auction History Result 2z015 LIGHTS OF NEW YORK local theater jumbo WC 1928 Warner Bros FIRST all-talking movie! Date Sold 1/3/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Local Theater Jumbo Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 18 1/4" x 22 1/2" [46 x 57 cm]) (Learn More) Lights of New York, the 1928 Bryan Foy New York City romantic love triangle mistaken identity crime thriller ("The First 'All Talking' Picture"; even though "The Jazz Singer" is often referred to as the first talking picture, it actually was not!; it had only partial sound sections, including, of course, singing by Jolson, but it also had inter-titles; this movie is actually the first feature movie with all synchronous dialogue, and is truly "the first all talking picture", as it was billed at the time of its release!) starring Helene Costello, Cullen Landis, Mary Carr, Wheeler Oakman, Gladys Brockwell, and Eugene Pallette. Note that Mary Carr became a major star in the mid 1910s around the age of 40, playing the parts of saintly mothers. She continued to make movies (switching to grandmother roles) through the mid 1930s, and then continued with mostly uncredited parts until the mid 1950s. She passed away in 1973 at the age of 99! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we will have to send this poster in an oversized flat package that measures approximately 21" x 25". Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a heavy paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. Condition: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the window card had creases in the top right corner and some tears and small paper loss around the edges, with some smudges, stains, and tears scattered throughout the poster. Overall, the window card was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
