An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 10 1/4" x 13 1/4" [26 x 34 cm] Movie Still (Learn More)

Angels with Dirty Faces, the classic 1938 Michael Curtiz (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic crime murder thriller melodrama (in this movie, quintessential tough guy Cagney is a hero to the Dead End Kids, and at the end his childhood pal, now a priest, asks him to be a coward as he is led to the electric chair to help keep those kids from following in his footsteps; "A story... mighty with the clash of men! A picture... unforgettable in its greatness!"; "Sensational in it's dramatic impact!"; "From a Story by Rowland Brown") starring James Cagney (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Rocky Sullivan), Pat O'Brien (as Father Jerry Connolly), The Dead End Kids (Leo Gorcey [as Bim], Billy Halop [as Soapy], Huntz Hall [as Crab], Bobby Jordan, Gabriel Dell, Bernard Punsly), Humphrey Bogart (as James Frazier), Ann Sheridan (as Laury Ferguson), George Bancroft, and Frankie Burke (as the young Rocky; he was an unknown 17 year-old newsboy when he was discovered to play the young James Cagney, because he had an uncanny resemblance to young James Cagney!)

Important Added Info: Note that this wonderful candid still shows an extreme close up of James Cagney smiling at sultry Ann Sheridan by Scotty Welbourne. The snipe on the back is titled "When the Irish Make Love" and talks about how Ann Sheridan is "one of the great success stories in Movieland", having come from a Texas school for teachers to Hollywood stardom!

Note that this still measures 10 1/4" x 13 1/4" [26 x 34 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock.

Note that we are currently auctioning over 100 ultra rare 11x14 stills (some measure slightly smaller) that are mostly from the 1930s, all in separate auctions! The highlight of these is the 58 of them that were consigned to us by a collector who acquired them many years ago, and they feature wonderful images of many of the greatest 1930s Hollywood stars, including James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, Edward G. Robinson, and many others! These are many times more rare than 8x10 stills, and are very rarely offered for sale or at auction, and many of these may be "one of a kind"! This is a very rare opportunity to acquire one or many of these extreme rarities!

Condition: good to very good. There are some faint smudges and scuffs in the top of the still, but they are mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. The still has changed to a sepia color and there is light staining scattered on the back of most of the still, but fortunately, it does not have much effect on the front (see our image).
