He is best known for his work in Disney comic books, as he is the writer and artist of the first Donald Duck stories and the creator of Scrooge McDuck. He worked for Disney Studio and Western Publishing where he created Duckburg and many of its inhabitants, including Gladstone Gander, the Beagle Boys, Magica De Spell, and many more! Beginning in the 1960s, he started selling 16x20 paintings of Disney characters to fans for hundreds of dollars each, and by the mid 1970s, they were selling for many thousands each, and by the 1990s, they were selling for tens of thousands each! In 1987 he was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame. It is titled "In Uncle Walt's Collectery", and it shows Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck, and the nephews admiring all sorts of Disney collectibles including comic books and a movie poster! Note that this limited edition art print has been personally autographed (signed) by Carl Barks and hand-numbered 318/345!
