An Autographed Letter (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]) (Learn More) Darryl F. Zanuck was a screenwriter in the 1920s who became a legendary producer from the 1930s to the 1970s. Some of his movies include: All About Eve, The Grapes of Wrath, How Green Was My Valley, The Longest Day, and Night and the City. He had an unusual beginning! He was born in Wahoo, Nebraska, the result of an affair between the owner of a hotel and the night clerk, and by the time he was 13, he had been abandoned by both his parents, and at 16, he lied about his age and joined the Army, serving in Belgium in World War I. Afterward, he had a series of odd jobs, but then got a job in the movie business, and the rest, as they say, is history! In case you were wondering, the "F" stands for Francis. Zanuck passed away in 1979 at the age of 77. Important Added Info: Note that this item has been personally autographed (signed) by Darryl F. Zanuck! It has great content, complaining that directors are not wanting to film at night in addition to daytime, and that is not letting movies get done quickly. He says he understands this is a lot to ask, but that directors get to rest for many weeks after each film is done, so they shouldn't mind working day and night while the film is being shot (see the letter for his exact words). Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1980s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items, and over the years he did not re-sell any of the autographed items. Now he has gathered up together all of his autographed items and consigned them to us. So all of the items from this consignor we are auctioning were purchased by this dealer from longtime dealers and collectors, and we feel it is quite likely that the autograph on this item is authentic! Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
