An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) The Dove, the 1927 Roland West silent mythical Mediterranean country romantic love triangle gambling melodrama ("From Willard Mack's Play"; "David Belasco's Great Success"; about a beautiful cabaret dancer who has a powerful admirer, but she prefers a gambler, and the powerful man has him framed for murder, and the girl goes to him, and he lets the man free even though it means he will lose the girl) starring Norma Talmadge, Noah Beery Sr., Gilbert Roland, Eddie Borden, and Harry Myers. Note that this movie was remade in 1932 as "Girl of the Rio" and in 1939 as "The Girl and the Gambler". Also, note that William Cameron Menzies won the Best Art Direction Academy Award for this film (and the Tempest) during the first Academy Awards. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: good to very good. The poster had many pinholes, smudges, and water stains around the edges of the card, extending into the green background areas and some of the lettering, but virtually none in the beautiful stone litho image of Talmadge. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The restorer paperbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting, because they are not in Talmadge's image (and any restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
