An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) A New Broadway Brevities, the 1940-41 stock poster for short subjects in the Vitaphone Broadway Brevities short subject series. Note that this poster is a "stock" poster created for entries in the Vitaphone "Broadway Brevities" series, with artwork scenes from typical entries in the series, including one of a boxing match and ice skating. Theaters would order this poster, and then could either write in the name of the specific short in the box at the bottom, or could order paper snipes so place in that box. In this case, the name of a specific short, "Just a Cute Kid", was overprinted into the box. If anyone knows more about this particular short or this series of shorts, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: No condition recorded. This poster was linenbacked, and it had defects which were repaired during the linenbacking process (which we describe below, as well as the quality of the restoration, if I thought there was something about the restoration worth commenting on!). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). the poster had tiny holes at the crossfolds and some separation, creases, and smudges along the foldlines. The poster had missing pieces and tears in the blank borders, and the person who did the restoration put new blank white paper over all the borders to even out the appearance (but the small writing at the bottom of the poster was not covered over). This is a common technique used by several top restorers. It is done so well that the majority of collectors are not even aware it has been done, and many do not feel it to be a significant detraction (since it is only blank white area). Overall, the image area of the poster was in pretty nice condition prior to linenbacking, and the poster was well linenbacked and looks great!
